What this release is
The Consumer Price Index is the headline US inflation number, published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It sets the tone for interest-rate expectations: a hotter print pushes Treasury yields up and rate-cut odds down, a softer one does the reverse. Markets move within seconds of the release.
